A Path Forward for New Leaf Foundation

The Path Forward for New Leaf Foundation

This past summer, New Leaf shared that the organization has been grappling with some challenges in recent months and years. These difficulties have included on-going financial impacts of a changed post-pandemic charitable sector, as well as related reductions in staffing and a significant turnover in Board Directors.

New Leaf recently stabilized for the short term by rebuilding an interim Board of Directors and securing sufficient funds to allow for a thoughtful decision-making process about how to move forward in light of these challenges – many thanks to long-time stakeholders and some newer supporters who stepped up and stepped in when we needed them most!

Decision on New Leaf’s Future & Continued Impact

After engaging in consultation with staff, founders, Members and outside advisors, we have come to a collective conclusion that the depletion currently being experienced within multiple layers of the organization is not within our capacity to overcome. As a result, a formal decision has been made to close New Leaf Foundation over the coming months.

As an organization committed to operating with a high level of integrity and dedicated to supporting health and wellbeing, we believe that the healthiest and most sustainable way for our work to continue is through sharing our resources through new channels and partnerships.

While there’s a deep feeling of grief amongst our team, we’re equally excited to see what we’ve created live on in new ways. After 18 years of carrying out really impactful work, having the ability to close mindfully will allow us to center our values, ensuring our work is taken good care of and can keep benefiting the communities we engage.

Final Chapter

New Leaf’s focus will now shift to these care-taking efforts. Our Board of Directors, remaining staff, and transition committee will work together to confirm pathways for our valued resources to continue to have an impact. Please stay tuned for more news on this coming later in November, including a call out for partnership applications.

We’re also passionate about and committed to sharing our experiences and learning as we move through this process over the next few months. In short, how we end is as important to us as how we carried out our work for so many years, and we want you to share in that, so please stay tuned to our newsletter and social media for updates, stories, and celebrations.

On behalf of New Leaf’s Members and staff, sending so much gratitude,

Board Directors and Co-founders
